Remember the old days? Where it wasn't the graphics that made a game, but rather the content. The days when bits reigned supreme. Remember how jaw dropping the first 64 bit system was? I had never seen Mario in 3d and I have to say, it was quite astonishing. Remember your first Super Nintendo? Funny how Mario always seems to be there at the birth of a new console, a harbinger of good times to come and great memories to make.
This is the stuff I grew up on, and it has a very special place in my heart. When life gets me down, I revert to the classics to pick me back up, and they haven't let me down yet. Cartridge Chronicles is my outlet, to appreciate these games that defined my childhood. And to rip on some of the not so good games, because lets face it, there were more than a few.
So what are your favorite games? What are your favorite consoles? Least favorite games? I would love to hear some comments, so keep them coming.
Well.. I first had Amiga console.. or was it even computer back then. I did play few games and I even had few backup copy games from a friend! I was lil' kid so I dont remember much where I got the games in the first place, but I have to rase up few titles. Cannon Fodder, Mortal Kombat and LARRY (lesuire suite)! Those were all legendary and I remember the Cannon Fodder theme and Cannon Fodder Recruiting music forever! Mortal Kombat brutal and we kinda played it secretly. Larry was.. well it was.. Didnt know how to play it but I had fun with it. I didnt know english back then, so I figured out that Larry was a robot and taxi drivers kills people on purpose.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, havent been on nintendo that much, but I remember when I went to my neighbour to play DUCK HUNT. Epic and all time favorite for so many of us.
Can't beat the old Nintendo. I'm a huge Megaman fan, have been ever since I played Mega Man X3 on Super Nintendo. I'd have to say my favorite console is the N64, mostly because that's where all my best gaming memories come from. It's where I really figured out how to play, and wasn't just being a dumb kid and messing around. I know it's pretty cliche, but Ocarina of Time has got to be my favorite game. I don't know why, but it bothers me that so many people like that game. It's like - it CAN'T be my favorite game, because everyone likes it so much.
ReplyDeleteThere was this one game on N64 that NOBODY played, as far as I can tell, but it was a BAD ASS game. Hybrid Heaven. Damn, if you haven't played that game, DO IT! It's basically a platformer/rpg-esque turn based combat/sci-fi epic. That was one of my favorite games... and it really felt like it was my game, you know?
Holy shit. Hybrid Heaven. I played and loved it.
ReplyDeleteThe N64 is my favourite console
ReplyDeletehave to say ps2, and games like oblivion i just dont get, the content is so boring
ReplyDeleteSNES was my console. But nowadays I can accept the fact that graphics support gameplay rather than distract from it. Like with the two new Fallouts.

ReplyDeleteI have hours and hours logged on Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Tetris. Nowadays pretty much all I play are 2D platform games, Mario 64 being the exception, of course...

ReplyDeleteI blame Nirvana. What they did to modern rock is pretty much the same as how games progressed too. Either way, I wish it was the 80's still.
